"Exchange knowledge and techniques on roads and transportation"
In October 2006 an inaugural meeting was held in London to form the Road Tunnel Operator Association (RTOA) to represent and promote the interests of organisations that own and manage road tunnels in the British Isles.
Up to that point no single body gave a collective voice to the owners and operators of road tunnels that handle millions of vehicles every year. A by-product of the twice yearly UK Road Tunnel Operator Forum, the embryonic Association represents the owners and operators of 37 road tunnels in the UK and Eire, each of whom have a voting representative.
The Road Tunnel Operator Association has recently elected a Chairman, Secretary, and managing committee. Their duty will be to oversee the constitution, which outlines the qualification requirements for individual and organisational membership, and drive forwards the agreed aims, objectives and terms of reference.
